3 Reasons why you must pray in tongues when you wake up at night

Have you ever dreamt you were praying in tongues and then woken up actually praying in tongues? Well, that is a fairly common occurrence when you have the gift of praying in tongues.

The prompt to pray comes from the Holy Spirit for very good reasons. In this article, I will explain three main reasons why you should take the prompting of the Holy Spirit to pray in tongues at night seriously.

1. The Holy Spirit knows Spiritual Matters better than you

The first important reason to pray in tongues when you wake up at night is that the Holy Spirit knows spiritual matters better than you.

In John 16:13, Jesus promised us that the Holy Spirit would come and guide us into all the truth. This means that the Holy Spirit is our teacher. In other words, He knows better than we do.

By the time the Holy Spirit is prompting you to wake up at night to pray in tongues, He knows what danger lies ahead. The Holy Spirit cannot wake you up to pray for no reason.

We barely understand what goes on in the spiritual realm when we are awake. How much worse is it when we are asleep?

But the Holy Spirit is always alert to all spiritual occurrences. For that reason, nothing in the spiritual realm escapes His attention.

In many cases, the Holy Spirit will wake you up to pray at night because the enemy is attacking you. The enemy loves attacking people at night because he knows many people are not alert. Remember, even Jesus mentioned it in Matthew 13:24-25.

It takes the mercy of God to survive such attacks. Because God loves us, He has given us the Holy Spirit who alerts us to such dangers and prompts us to pray to avert them. If you are obedient to the Holy Spirit, you will save yourself from such attacks.

Therefore, even if you don’t feel motivated to pray, since it is the Holy Spirit who has woken you up to pray at night, humble yourself and pray knowing that the Holy Spirit is much wiser than you.

2. Nighttime is prime time for engaging in the spirit

Time is a huge factor in the spiritual realm. Spirits know their chances of influencing humans vary with the time of the day.

When the Lord wants to establish a matter in the day, He will ask you to pray at night. He will want you to plant the godly seed for the day before sunrise.

That way, by the time other people wake up, God’s agenda for the day is already established. Since God’s agenda is complex, oftentimes, He will just ask you to pray in tongues.

As you pray in tongues at night, the Lord uses you to make spiritual declarations that establish His agenda for the day.

At that point, even if evil people try to destroy the agenda of God during the day, it is already too late.

In other cases, the enemy plants seeds of wickedness before dawn. In such cases, the Holy Spirit will prompt you to wake up and nullify such evil plans. He does that by giving you a strong urge to pray in the spirit at night.

Have you ever had a bad dream and woken up gloomy because of it? That is an example of how the enemy plants ungodly seeds in people’s lives at night.

And, have you ever woken up abruptly in the middle of a bad dream? That was the Holy Spirit alerting you about the enemy’s plot so that you resist it.

Nighttime is for serious spiritual engagement. Don’t shrug off prompts to pray in tongues.

3. You are commanded to watch and pray

Jesus commanded His disciples to watch and pray in Matthew 26:40-41. He was praying at night, but His disciples were asleep.

Jesus explained to them that if they don’t pray, they will fall into temptation.

Since we are the disciples of Christ, the same command applies to us. We have to pray even when we don’t feel like praying because it is a command from our master, Jesus.

It is no surprise that Jesus proclaimed this command at night when His disciples preferred to sleep.

When duty calls, Jesus sends the Holy Spirit to wake us up to pray at night in the spirit to avoid temptations. The gift of praying in tongues makes it a bit easier to pray than if we had to pray in understanding.

For this reason, we have no excuse not to pray when the Holy Spirit wakes us up in the night.

Therefore, even if you are tired and prefer to sleep, remember that the Holy Spirit waking you up at night is a command from your master Jesus, to pray.

As a good soldier of Christ, you must respond to the call with all diligence.
