Feeling Discouraged Even After Praying in Tongues

I’ve had a number of people ask me about the reason behind feeling discouraged even after praying in tongues. This is one of the very common challenges faced by believers who are blessed with the gift of speaking in tongues.

There are times when you go to pray in tongues feeling discouraged but then you feel very encouraged and charged up afterwards. However, there are instances when you go to prayer feeling cast down, yet the feeling persists even after praying in tongues.

It is important to recognize that as human beings, we experience various levels of distress due to different circumstances and situations surrounding our lives.

When we pray in Tongues, the Holy Spirit begins to work to help us overcome this distress because He is the helper of all those who believe in Christ.

In the same way the Spirit also helps us in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings.

Romans 8:26

If the problem you are facing is significant, it will require more time of praying in tongues to allow the Holy Spirit sufficient time to work out a solution.

There are other situations that may cause minimal distress or discomfort. In such cases, a brief session of praying in tongues will be adequate for the Holy Spirit to address the issue that is contributing to your discouragement.

The solution

Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.

Ephesians 6:18

If you find yourself still feeling discouraged after praying in tongues, you can enhance the intensity of your prayers by extending your prayer-time and staying in communion with God.

Typically, the longer you engage in speaking in tongues, the more you immerse yourself in the spirit, allowing for a greater manifestation of the power of the Holy Spirit within you.

If you extend the duration of your prayers in tongues, you will provide more time for the Holy Spirit to strengthen you to overcome the distressing situation.

Additionally, fasting can increase your spiritual sensitivity, making you more attentive in the spiritual realm. This heightened awareness will enable you to concentrate better on your tongues, resulting in increased power from the Holy Spirit.

As shown in the bible, fasting is a powerful tool in submitting to the will of God and seeking His direction.

Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from Him the right way for us and our little ones and all our possessions.

Ezra 8:21

When you combine fasting with praying in tongues, you will likely experience a greater level of power in your spoken tongues compared to your usual prayers on regular days.

In conclusion, if you pray in tongues and still feel discouraged or the distressing situation does not improve, increase the time you spend praying in tongues. If this does not bring relief, you may want to consider fasting alongside praying until you find peace. Blessings!
