How to access the Prophetic Realm when Praying in Tongues

The Holy Spirit, who enables us to pray in tongues, also enables us to prophesy. This means that you can access the prophetic realm by praying in tongues.

With that being said, let me explain a few things about the prophetic realm before I go any further.

The prophetic realm is a spiritual territory. This territory is ruled by the spirit of prophecy. This means that whoever has access to this spiritual territory also has access to the spirit of prophecy.

As a result, the person can prophesy by accessing information from the spirit of prophecy.

When praying in tongues, the Holy Spirit may sometimes give you access to the prophetic realm, leading you to speak what we call prophetic tongues.

Prophetic Tongues

Prophetic tongues are basically tongues that outline the future. This could be merely stating events that are bound to happen, or it might also be a declaration of something that doesn’t exist yet, but by the prophetic declaration, it comes into existence.

This is an important part of praying in tongues because it fulfills the aspect of believers being like God, that is, speaking things into existence. Through the prophetic declarations, we establish God’s will on earth as it is in heaven, and give it the legal right to exist in our earthly territory.

Let me also mention something about how the Holy Spirit and the spirit of prophecy work. This is important for you to know if you desire to access the prophetic realm.

The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God, and He has the full power and glory of the Father. On the other hand, the spirit of prophecy is a spirit from God that is in charge of every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.

In simple terms, the spirit of prophecy is the spokesperson of God in the spiritual realm. This means that, for a human being to be a prophet, which basically means God’s spokesperson on earth, he has to be filled with the spirit of prophecy.

From there, he will be downloading information from the spirit of prophecy in the spiritual realm and declaring it on earth.

Now, the Holy Spirit teaches us how to relate with and access the spirit of prophecy among many other spirits. We cannot interact with any other spirit from God unless we are taught and guided by the Holy Spirit.

This is why the Holy Spirit is integral to experiencing the spiritual realm.

Accessing the Prophetic Realm

There are two ways in which human beings can access the spirit of prophecy. One, human beings can be filled with the spirit of prophecy. This is what used to happen in the Old Testament. All those Old Testament prophets had the spirit of prophecy dwelling in them.

Today, some believers have the spirit of prophecy dwelling in them. These are full-time prophets, or in other words, people who have been called to be prophets.

The prophets have to adhere to a certain lifestyle that aligns with the spirit of prophecy. Allow me not to go into details about their lifestyle for today.

They also have full-time access to the prophetic realm. This means that at any given time, what they declare qualifies as a prophecy, and God is obligated to fulfill it. For this reason, God has very strict rules for the prophets.

For example, God went to the extent of making Ezekiel’s tongue stick to the roof of his mouth to stop him from speaking what he had not been instructed to speak. Otherwise, God would be forced to fulfill whatever proceeded from the mouth of Ezekiel.

The other way human beings can access the spirit of prophecy is when the Holy Spirit lifts their spirit to the prophetic realm. This is what many believers experience.

You don’t have to be a prophet to experience the prophetic realm, thanks to the Holy Spirit. In the process of praying in tongues, as you yield yourself to the Holy Spirit, He aligns you with the demands of the prophetic, which then enables you to ascend to the prophetic realm.

This is usually an automatic process that the Holy Spirit does when He sees the need for you to make prophetic declarations.

However, you can verbally request the Holy Spirit to grant you access to the prophetic realm, and He will guide you there.

How do you know you’ve accessed the prophetic realm?

The first and most obvious sign that you have accessed the prophetic is when the tone of your tongues becomes declarative. Prophetic tongues have a very distinct tone.

Also, the prophetic tongues often come with prophetic acts. You will find yourself making signs in the air, taking measured steps, writing on the ground, etc.

The prophetic acts are there to emphasize the prophetic message you are speaking.

In some cases, the Holy Spirit opens your eyes to see events that you are prophesying about.

When you are done with the declarations, you will often find yourself saying “Thus says the Lord” or “The Lord has spoken”.
