I prayed in tongues for 2 hours non-stop on Friday, 28th November 2025 and learned a very important lesson. This lesson will motivate you to pray in tongues like never before.
On Friday, 28th November, I did the usual 2-hour praying in tongues session, and something interesting happened. (In case you didn’t know, I do live 2-hour praying in tongues sessions on my YouTube channel every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.)
But before I get into what happened, let me start by telling you how I prepared myself for the session.
Preparation for the Session
On the day of the prayer session, I decided to do a fast. I only drank water and ate one banana the whole day. The prayer session was scheduled for 6 pm.
I like to hold a fast on days I intend to do a long praying in tongues session to help with my focus. This day was no different.
I wanted to spend some time in prayer and worship before the session to keep my spirit in a prayerful mood. However, that was not possible. I had a number of activities outside the house for the better part of the day.
I suspected I would return to the house tired, which would definitely affect my focus during the prayer session. Remaining alert during the 2-hour praying in tongues session is never easy, especially after a busy day.
Sure enough, I returned to the house very tired. I got back to the house 3 hours before the prayer session was scheduled to start. I was very concerned if I would stay alert during the prayer session, given how tired I was.
On top of that, I had some more work to do before the session.
An hour before the prayers, I decided to take a nap. I would have spent the hour warming up my spirit in worship, but I felt a nap would be more effective.
This meant that I would enter the prayer session with zero prayer and worship since morning. That spelled trouble. But I had no choice.
So, how did the session go?
Session Execution
I started the session minutes after taking the nap. I wasn’t fully composed, but thankfully less tired.
Just as I expected, my tongues felt very dry at the beginning. The fast I had taken helped my focus, but the busy day affected my tongues severely.
Typically, I start my sessions with repentance. I have a good reason for it. Many times, when the devil is attacking you, he piles guilt on you, using the sin and defilement on you.
When you repent, the devil gets no foothold to attack you.
I tried repenting for some of the sins I could remember but my mind was blank. Eventually, I decided to pray in tongues until the Holy Spirit would reveal the sins I needed to repent of.
My mind was exhausted. That state also affects how easily you get messages from the Holy Spirit.
Knowing how bad my state was, I decided to go with a tried and tested approach. That is enduring the dry tongues as long as I can until I get a revelation to fix them.
Thirty minutes into the session, I was still struggling with dry tongues. I was forcing syllables out of my mouth and trying to raise my voice as much as possible to keep the momentum.
That is a strategy I’ve always used and it has saved me countless times. I had hope that the Holy Spirit would reveal something that would unlock the sweet flow of tongues.
Clearly, repentance and purification was not working.
I had to endure for fifteen more minutes before the Holy Spirit gave me a revelation.
You may be wondering, why would the Holy Spirit wait for all that long before giving me the revelation that would unlock sweet flowing tongues?
Well, the Holy Spirit always tries to communicate to us the obstacles hindering our prayers. However, sometimes, we defile our senses to a point that we cannot receive the communication of the Holy Spirit.
In that case, we have to spend some time pushing ourselves to pray until our senses gain enough sensitivity in the spirit for us to get instructions from the Holy Spirit.
After about 45 minutes, which felt like forever, a word popped up in my mind. The word was discouragement.
Without any more information, I quickly understood that the devil was using discouragement as a weapon.
Since I was expecting a clue from the Holy Spirit, it was easy for me to grasp it when He revealed it.
I had dealt with this obstacle many times before in previous prayer sessions. Immediately, I switched from a repentance-focused approach to a warfare approach.
I knew I needed to rebuke the devil and all his discouragements.
Sure enough, the moment I began waging war, I started feeling a lot lighter in the spirit. My tongues began to flow a lot more easily than before.
As part of the warfare, I affirmed my rights in Christ. That is a very effective warfare strategy that the enemy can’t fight against.
As my tongues flowed a lot more easily, I got more excited and prayed more vigorously.
After about 30 minutes of intense warfare and declaring, I felt the heavy cloud of discouragement vanish.
That is when I switched to praising God.
I praised God for the victory He had given me. Were it not for the revelation of the Holy Spirit, I would have had a really hard time praying in tongues.
For the remaining 45 minutes of the prayer session, I soaked deep in the spirit. At some point, I started feeling a very cool sensation on my forehead. It was so real. It felt as if someone had put a wet piece of cloth on my forehead.
That feeling usually comes from the anointing of the Holy Spirit. To be precise, it is an anointing to refresh a weary soul.
It made sense for the Holy Spirit to be refreshing me after an intense warfare session. Warfare really drains you.
Towards the end of the session, my heart was full of inexplicable joy. The session had been very fruitful. I was experiencing the heavy presence of the Lord.
Although the session began on a rough start, it ended in great victory and joy.
Biggest Lesson Learned
From the experience, I learned that getting to God’s holy presence is a battle. But with a revelation from the Holy Spirit, you will prevail.
Therefore, whenever you are stuck with dry tongues, seek a revelation from the Holy Spirit. It will unlock sweet tongues for you.
