On Friday, 5th December 2025, I prayed in tongues for 3 hours and had a fruitful spiritual experience. I’m sharing this experience with you to encourage you to pray in tongues more.
For context, I do live sessions of praying in tongues on YouTube every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. During the sessions, I usually experience a lot of spiritual activity, which I later on share with other believers from time to time.
Today, I’ll share with you my experience during that particular prayer session and the important lessons I learned.
Let’s get into it.
Preparation for the Session
On that day, I did a water-only fast in preparation for the 6 pm prayer session.
A water fast is good because it keeps you hydrated.
Besides the water fast, I ate one banana in the morning. I had several activities I needed to do during the day, and the banana gave me sufficient energy to get the work done.
I also spent an hour praying in tongues during the day in anticipation of the 2 hours of praying in tongues in the evening. Cumulatively, I prayed in tongues for 3 hours that day.
Lastly, I took a nap just before the prayers. I did that to reduce the fatigue I was feeling from the day’s work.
If you ever struggle with feeling sleepy during long praying-in-tongues sessions, take a nap just before the session. It helps a lot.
So, how did the session turn out?
Session Execution
I would have started the session with repentance and purification, but I did not have the conviction. Sometimes the Holy Spirit skips the purification stage if you are already pure.
If you are not sure of your own standing before God, it is wise to begin with repentance and purification. That way, there will be no hindrance as you soak deeper in the spirit.
Since I had already spent an hour praying in tongues during the day, I found it easy to flow in tongues from the beginning. This is one of the main reasons I do a warm-up session before a long, intense praying in tongues session.
Shortly after I started the session, I felt the Holy Spirit leading me to pray for God’s intervention in the lives of people. The Holy Spirit put it in my heart that there were people struggling with many issues and needed miracles.
For the next 45 minutes, I prayed as the Holy Spirit led me.
The long intercession felt plain and uneventful. Naturally, I started feeling bored. It felt as if the tongues I was speaking were going nowhere.
Whenever I get into such a situation, I usually ask the Holy Spirit to give me a reason to continue praying. Many times, the devil takes advantage of such situations to discourage believers from praying.
If you are wondering how I ask the Holy Spirit, well, sometimes I pray in understanding, telling the Holy Spirit to encourage me to pray. I may say something like ‘encourage me, Spirit of the Lord, to continue praying’ or ‘Give me strength to pray, Spirit of the Lord’.
Other times, I simply meditate on what I want in my heart. I know the Holy Spirit knows the desires of my heart and will fulfill them as I continue praying.
After I asked the Holy Spirit to encourage me to continue praying, He revealed to me a scary vision.
Here is what I saw.
The Revelation
I saw a place that was dark with a little bit of light. It felt like the underworld. I could see things, but not clearly.
When I looked, I saw a trench on the ground. That trench had some water flowing in it. Then I saw a snake glide to the middle of that trench, then stop.
Immediately, after the snake stopped, it was chopped into many pieces. I did not see what chopped it into many pieces. What I saw puzzled me.
At that point, I desired to know more about the vision. So, I asked the Holy Spirit to give me more details.
That’s when I noticed two angels standing on either side of the trench. They were the ones chopping snakes in the trench into many pieces.
I kept seeing more snakes gliding in the trench and getting chopped. Then my attention was drawn to a pit that was right next to the trench.
Once the snakes were chopped into pieces, they were thrown into the pit. After a while, that pit opened, and the chopped snakes fell into a deep abyss, which had red-hot lava.
Just when I thought that was all, I saw smaller angels than the two that were standing on either side of the trench. The smaller angels were coming and going from where I was.
I didn’t know where they were coming from or going to, but they kept coming and returning from where they came.
Upon looking keenly, I noticed that the smaller angels were the ones throwing snakes in the trench. The Holy Spirit then helped me understand that the smaller angels were picking those snakes from the earth.
To be specific, they were picking those snakes from the hearts of people. I then saw a human heart with a snake coiled around it. Then an angel went with what looked like a hooked metal and carefully pulled the snake from the heart.
What I saw was both terrifying and comforting. I was terrified to see so many snakes, but comforted to see angels destroying them.
The Holy Spirit helped me understand that those snakes are responsible for many heart problems in people; unforgiveness, bitterness, anger, evil intentions, deception, selfishness, and much more.
Biggest Lesson Learned
Whenever we pray in tongues, even if we don’t notice it, we command angels to work.
I was interceding and felt as if my tongues were not going anywhere. But the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to see the impact of the intercession I was making, and I was amazed.
Therefore, always know that your tongues have a greater impact in the spiritual realm than you imagine. Don’t let the enemy deceive you into thinking that your tongues have no impact.
