On Friday 12th December, I embarked on a 2-hour praying in tongues session. I was extremely tired and had great doubt if I would manage to pray in tongues for 2 hours.
I fumbled around to prepare myself. Here is what happened and an important lesson you should learn about praying in tongues.
I always pray in tongues for 2 hours non-stop three times a week. I do this to reap the great benefits of praying in tongues.
Ever since I realized how much joy and peace I get when I pray in tongues, I never want to miss a single session of praying in tongues.
However, it is never easy for some of the praying in tongues sessions. Life has many variables and sometimes it puts you in a very inconvenient place to pray in tongues.
When that happens, praying in tongues becomes a battle.
Preparation for the Session
The day before the 2-hour prayer session, I had many things to handle outside the house. I spent almost the entire day moving up and down.
At the end of the day, I went to bed knowing I would wake up fresh the following day.
Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
I woke up on Friday still very tired. Given that I usually do a water only fast on the day I pray in tongues for 2 hours, it meant that I would have to fast in the condition I was in.
I had been very consistent with fasting and praying in tongues for 2 hours three times every week but on Friday, it felt as if I would lose my streak.
I wanted to start my daily routine but my body could not allow it. My mind was tired and I couldn’t bring myself to do anything.
I just about managed to do the morning devotion where I read a chapter in the Bible, sing a few songs then pray in tongues for about 10 minutes.
The struggle it took to get the morning devotion done made me very concerned about the 2-hour tongues session in the evening.
“If I’m struggling this much with a simple 10-minute praying in tongues session in the morning, what will become of a 2-hour speaking in tongues session, and again, in the evening.” I wondered.
Another thing that really concerned me was the wandering of the mind I had experienced in the previous 2-hour praying in tongues sessions.
Many times, I would keep my mind focused during the first hour but I would really struggle in the second hour.
If I was struggling yet I was fresh, what would happen on a day I was exhausted even before the session began? Only time would tell.
With my daily routine going nowhere, I decided to take a deep rest and hope that I would wake up fresh.
I ended up resting for another three hours during the day. The fatigue I was feeling was abnormal.
At some point, I suspected maybe the enemy had something to do with the fatigue I was experiencing. It wasn’t normal. What kind of fatigue doesn’t go away even after hours of rest?
Anyway, by the time evening came, I had a few things I could count on. One of them was the fast I was taking.
As evening approached, I felt lighter in the spirit even though I had not spent any time in prayer or worship. Avoiding food naturally sharpens your spiritual senses and it was working in my favor.
Two, I had faith that I would still pray in tongues for 2 hours comfortably because of the many times I had prayed in tongues while exhausted.
“It’s just talking at the end of the day”, I convinced myself.
Session Execution…
Because I was expecting a hard time praying in tongues, I started the session with all the vigor I could afford. I reasoned that starting off strong would help me get the flow quickly and hopefully not struggle through the session.
To my sweet surprise, though I was physically fatigued, spiritually, I was perfectly fresh. Tongues flowed a lot easily than I expected. That was very pleasing.
The first 30 minutes passed by so fast. I couldn’t believe time was moving that fast.
Anytime tongues flow sweetly, time seems to speed up.
From the half hour mark to the hour mark is where the tongues got really good. I could feel the power of the tongues. I knew the Holy Spirit was at work.
It was also in this period that I started feeling very strong physically. I couldn’t tell how that was possible, but it was happening.
I was praying very aggressive tongues and given that I started the session exhausted, I expected to run out of strength very quickly. But an hour into the session, I was stronger physically than how I was at the beginning.
The power of the Holy Spirit was very exciting and it made me pray even more.
After the hour mark, I slowed down my tongues a bit. That is when I started feeling a bit of fatigue returning.
But I did my best to keep up the intensity to avoid feeling tired.
With only about 30 minutes left to the end of the session, I felt the temptation to let my mind wander. It was very tempting but also, it was easy to overcome the temptation.
At that time, I was already feeling the heavenly presence that comes with prolonged praying in tongues. In that state, it is easy to think of the goodness of God to keep your mind from wandering.
Eventually, I completed the 2-hour praying in tongues I thought I would struggle through. It turns out the concerns I had were just a tactic of the enemy to stop me from praying. I thank God I didn’t listen to them.
Biggest Lesson Learned
Sometimes you will feel too tired to pray in tongues. But if you can discipline yourself to get started, you’ll be surprised at how much strength the Holy Spirit gives you to pray.
Don’t listen to your flesh that tells you to postpone praying in tongues. After all, it is the Holy Spirit that empowers you to pray and not your flesh.
After you pray in tongues, the heavenly peace and joy will refresh you and take away all the ungodly fatigue.
I hope my experience will encourage you to pray in tongues even when you feel tired.
God bless you!
