On Wednesday, December 10th, I faced several challenges while praying in tongues for 2 hours non-stop. Ultimately, I learned a valuable lesson.
As you may know by now, I do 2-hour praying in tongues sessions every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. During the sessions, I experience challenges and breakthroughs.
As I share my experience for this particular prayer session, I hope you will be motivated to pray in tongues even more. It is such a wonderful gift!
Let’s get into it.
Preparation for the Session
On the day of the prayer session, I decided to take a fast. It is never easy to fast. Your mind constantly thinks about food, you question the impact of the fast, and you become very weak physically, among other challenges.
Despite the hardship that comes with fasting, I braced myself as a good soldier of Christ Jesus and fasted.
Since I planned to have the 2-hour praying in tongues session at 6 pm, I wanted to drink water only from morning to evening.
However, that is not exactly what happened.
In the afternoon, I ate a few mango slices. I was not hungry. I ate the mango slices because they were available. That made my fast officially a water and fruit fast.
On that same afternoon, I intended to spend some time in prayer and worship. I wanted to worship and pray to warm up my spirit in preparation for the 2-hour tongues session in the evening.
Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to spend time in prayer and worship. I didn’t have the desire to pray at all, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get myself to pray.
I excused myself, saying, “You’ll pray in tongues for 2 hours this evening; you don’t have to pray now.”
I shouldn’t have listened to that voice of the flesh, but I did. I feel guilty reflecting on it right now. May the Lord have mercy on me.
To make matters worse, at around 4 pm, I started feeling tired from the day’s activities. Out of all the options I had, I decided to sleep.
I wasn’t too tired, but again, I gave in to the temptation of the flesh. I should have spent that time praying. That is what a disciplined disciple of Jesus would do. Unfortunately, that day, I wasn’t disciplined as Jesus requires of us.
With my less-than-perfect preparation, the time of reckoning came. Here is how the 2-hour praying in tongues session turned out.
Session Execution
Though my preparation had many flaws, the praying in tongues session started surprisingly well. Tongues were flowing, my mind was settled, and I had great energy to pray. I was in the perfect mood for prayer.
That is what consistent praying in tongues does to you. Even on days when you feel poorly prepared to pray, somehow, you easily get the flow.
You see, as much as I gave in to some of the temptations of the flesh, I still fasted. Additionally, I had a morning devotion of prayer and reading the word upon waking up that day.
Add that to the many spiritual experiences I’ve had over the years, and you will understand why I would still have an easy time even with less than perfect preparation.
If it were my early days of praying in tongues, I would definitely have struggled throughout the session.
Not long after the prayer session began, the Holy Spirit revealed to me something profound.
The Revelation…
The Holy Spirit brought to my attention two scriptures. The first scripture was Numbers 13:33. The Bible says…
There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”
The other scripture was Matthew 6:25. The Bible says…
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
With these two scriptures, the Holy Spirit helped me understand that many believers miss out on God’s blessings because of fear and worry. Since God only gives blessings through faith, anyone who has fear or worry is bound to miss out.
But when we pray in tongues, the Holy Spirit gives us boldness to overcome fear and worry. The boldness we get gives us a solid foundation of faith to receive many blessings from the Lord.
This was very encouraging news from the Holy Spirit. It fired me up to pray more in tongues.
Biggest Lesson Learned
From this prayer session, I learned that the Holy Spirit is always willing to help us pray even when we feel tired.
Before starting the prayers, I felt poorly prepared. However, by the end of the session, I had great joy and peace, with a bonus revelation.
Therefore, even when you feel you are not perfectly set up to pray in tongues, just start speaking in tongues. The Holy Spirit will take over, and you will be surprised at how fruitful the session turns out to be.
God bless you!
