Someone asked me a very interesting question: Is it okay to quit long workouts and instead spend more time praying in tongues?
The person explained that they used to attend workout classes regularly, but lately they felt led by the Holy Spirit to pray in tongues as much as possible.
They said that going to workout classes every day now felt like a waste of time, and that the Holy Spirit gave them wisdom that stretching their body for about 10 to 20 minutes daily is enough to stay healthy.
This question caught my attention because I’ve been through something very similar myself.
There was a time when I was very focused on being fit; working out, eating healthy, and doing all the usual things people do to maintain good health. But the Holy Spirit began to show me that I was relying heavily on human wisdom to keep my body healthy, instead of trusting God.
At the same time, the Holy Spirit was leading me to spend more time praying in tongues, just as He led the person who asked this question.
And this is where faith comes in, because you are shifting from trusting human systems to trusting God Himself.
What the Lord explained to me is that there are ways of remaining healthy that are unknown to human beings. God is the maker of our bodies. He knows exactly what they need. Being in His presence is nourishment and not just for our spirits, but even for our physical bodies.
For example, people who are under a lot of stress often lose weight or grow weak. Stress consumes a lot of energy. But when God gives you peace, that burden is lifted, and your body naturally stabilizes.
The Lord also spoke to me about love. He showed me that people who are deeply loved tend to be healthier, because love brings nourishment and strength. Experiencing the love of God alone can keep you in good health.
Many of us work out because we want to stay healthy and live longer. But the Bible tells us that long life is actually a byproduct of wisdom. In the book of Proverbs 3:16 Scripture says, “In her right hand is long life, and in her left hand are riches and honor.”
Longevity doesn’t truly come from workouts; it comes from God.
From a worldly perspective, people rely on food, exercise, water intake, and countless health rules. One person says drink eight glasses of water, another says walk a certain distance, another says stretch this part of your body, take care of your eyes, brush your teeth, and so on. There are endless instructions.
If you focus only on maintaining your body, you can become so busy that you forget your divine assignment. God didn’t create you just to take care of your body, but He created you to fulfill His purpose.
God desires that we spend time with Him in prayer, and He will take care of our bodies.
This requires faith, but once you begin to trust God in this way, you’ll notice that He keeps you healthy without you stressing over it.
This is also why when people seek healing, God often draws them closer to Himself instead of immediately addressing the sickness. His presence heals.
Nehemiah 8:10 says the joy of the Lord is our strength. We may think our strength comes from food, but true strength comes from the joy that God gives.
That’s why someone can eat well and still feel weak after a fearful or traumatic experience, because their joy has been drained. But when God restores joy, strength returns.
The Lord also revealed something deeper to me during that season. He showed me that our bodies only become dirty because of two things: sweat and sin. That is why, in our natural state, we need to bathe almost every day.
The Mystery of sweat and sin
The Lord then helped me understand that sweat itself is a curse that came after the fall of man in the Garden of Eden, when God declared that man would toil and sweat in order to eat.
However, He revealed that when a person truly dwells in His presence, He releases a deep peace that removes the need for striving, and even the effects of sweat diminish.
Since our bodies only become dirty due to waste materials released through sweat, remaining in God’s presence brings renewal that keeps the body pure and clean.
From an earthly perspective, it may be difficult to reach such a level of hosting God’s presence, which is why we still bathe daily. But this was simply something the Lord revealed to me during that time.
Sin, on the other hand, is what causes defilement on our bodies and ultimately leads to death, including the cellular death that takes place every day in our bodies.
However, in heaven, there will be no death, no decay, and no need for cleansing because everything will be fully perfect and purified.
This is also why, in heaven, we will not need to take showers because we will be fully purified. There will be no death, and even our cells will not decay.
Some of these revelations are deep and may sound high-level, but the closer you draw to God, the more you begin to experience aspects of this restoration, even here on earth.
God can perfect even the smallest details of your life. He can bring order, balance, and beauty without you stressing. Let the Holy Spirit lead you. Pray in tongues and trust Him to take care of you.
God bless you!
