In this article, I will share a testimony that has completely changed my understanding of praying in tongues and how the Holy Spirit works.
Before witnessing this miracle, I used to despise the tongues I spoke from time to time. At other times, I felt like there was no real power behind them, and I would feel very discouraged. But that was only because I was viewing the gift of tongues from a physical perspective.
I pray that this testimony motivates you whenever you feel discouraged while praying in tongues, as I explain what really happens in the spiritual realm as you pray.
The miraculous deliverance
Back in 2020, I was part of a church evangelism team that ministered in villages and schools. These missions were always intense, full of prayer, and manifestations of the Holy Spirit.
On this particular day, we were ministering in a Christian high school. Attendance at the revival meetings was compulsory, so we also had non-Christian students among us.
The service began with a worship session, then the pastor who had accompanied us began preaching. The atmosphere was spiritually charged, and we could clearly sense the presence of God.
About fifteen minutes into his sermon, the pastor asked everyone to stand up, mainly to help those who were getting sleepy or distracted to stay alert.
Immediately after everyone stood up, a young boy who was seated in the front row suddenly closed his eyes very tightly and lifted both his hands. It was clear that something spiritual was happening.
He then turned and stretched his hands toward a Muslim boy who was standing some distance away.
At first, no one understood what was happening. The pastor stopped preaching, and everyone’s attention turned to this boy. Then the young Christian boy began praying loudly in tongues with his eyes still closed and hands stretched towards the Muslim boy.
Suddenly, the Muslim boy fell to the ground. He began writhing and crying out as the evil spirits were being confronted. What shocked us most was that when the Christian boy moved his hands, the Muslim boy’s body would respond in the same direction.
The power of God was visibly at work.
At that time, I had the gift of interpreting tongues, so I could understand part of what the Holy Spirit was saying through the boy. The Holy Spirit was repeatedly asking the evil spirits why they had disobeyed God.
From that day, my understanding of praying in tongues and the power of the Holy Spirit changed completely. Here are the lessons I learned.
1. The Power of The Holy Spirit
First, I learned just how powerful the Holy Spirit truly is.
We often associate the Holy Spirit with gentleness and a still small voice, but He is also very powerful. Watching a young boy being used so mightily without doing anything special reminded me that this power does not come from human strength but purely from God.
It almost scared me to know that the same Holy Spirit behind these mighty works was also dwelling in me.
2. The perfect wisdom of the Holy Spirit
Second, I learned that the Holy Spirit always knows exactly what He is doing.
No one planned this deliverance. No one directed the boy. Everything happened under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
This showed me that when we pray in tongues, the Holy Spirit understands our needs and battles. He knows when to act, how to act, and whom to use.
He knows us in and out, and when we allow Him to intercede for us, He does it perfectly.
3.The weight of tongues
Third, I learned that the tongues we speak terrify the kingdom of darkness.
Sometimes we underestimate the power of praying in tongues, but that day I saw firsthand how much torment it brings to evil spirits.
Through tongues, the Holy Spirit was using simple questions to shake the very foundations of darkness, by simply asking the evil spirits why they disobeyed God.
Summary
This experience taught me never to despise praying in tongues. Even when I feel discouraged or unsure, I remember that moment, and it strengthens my faith.
So today, I want to encourage you to never underestimate the power of praying in tongues. The Holy Spirit who dwells in you is the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead. That power is alive and active within you. God bless you.
