The Praying in Tongues Dilemma When You Soak Deep In Tongues

I want to discuss a common dilemma that seasoned praying-in-tongues believers often face. When you grow past the initial stages of praying in tongues, where the tongues feel dry and unfruitful, you eventually get ushered into a realm of powerful spiritual manifestations.

In this realm, you experience overwhelming peace, joy, and closeness to God.

It’s at this level that the dilemma arises. You find yourself wondering whether you should continue to pray in tongues or cut short the heavenly experience, especially when time is limited.

Because of our human limitations, we cannot stay in that state forever. We have responsibilities and relationships to manage.

Unlike humans, the Holy Spirit never tells us to stop praying in tongues. He only wants to guide us and lead us to pray as long as we allow Him. Therefore, the decision of how long to pray comes down to your own will.

You get to decide when and how long to dedicate time to soaking in the spirit versus attending to your human responsibilities.

This is why God gave us self-will that allows us to make independent decisions. This way, He is able to test our dedication towards Him and to also judge us when we appear before Him to account for our lives.

I’ve personally observed this in fellowships I have attended. The presence of God would be so tangible, and we would all soak in this strong, sweet, and powerful heavenly atmosphere.

Eventually, the services had to end for practical reasons, and I remember the pastor would ask God to gently retreat so that He could conclude the service.

This shows that even spiritual sweetness must be balanced with earthly responsibilities.

When you first experience these heavenly encounters, it’s natural to want to prolong them, fearing that you might not reach that level again.

But here’s the truth: the more consistently you pray in tongues, the easier it becomes to enjoy the heavenly experiences time and again.

Conclusion

My advice is that you create a lifestyle around praying in tongues. You may decide, for example, to commit one hour to praying in tongues every day.

At first, it might feel mundane, but with consistency, you get to enjoy the heavenly sweetness every day.

If praying in tongues is only an on-and-off event, it can become tempting to overextend your prayers, fearing that it’s a one-time thing. This is not always practical given our human responsibilities.

Remember, as humans, we also have to balance our spiritual life with other tasks. God expects us to act on what He has assigned us, including teaching and serving others, being there for loved ones, going on missions, and so on.

If we spent all our time in the Spirit, many earthly assignments would be neglected.

So, it is perfectly normal to cut short a sweet praying-in-tongues experience. What matters most is balance.

Dedicate time to your prayer life, but also faithfully serve God and others as you have been called to do. This way, you get to fulfill both your spiritual and earthly responsibilities, and God will reward you for both.

God bless you!
