When God Answers Prayer in The Middle of Praying in Tongues

In this article, I will cover moments when God answers prayer during the course of praying in tongues. This can happen in two main ways.

The first way is when you are right in the middle of a prayer session. You may be seeking God, asking Him to reveal something, or simply praying in tongues, then suddenly the Lord gives you an answer that directly addresses a situation in your life.

The second way is when you have dedicated yourself to praying in tongues and fasting for a certain period. Then, before you even complete that fast, the Lord steps in and answers you.

This is very common. However, there are important truths we need to understand in such moments, because many believers end up making mistakes as soon as they receive answers to their prayers.

How God delivers breakthroughs

Before proceeding, we must first understand how God delivers breakthroughs and answers prayers. Whenever we pray, whether in understanding or in tongues, there are two key things God looks at.

1. Faith

The first thing is faith. God wants to see whether you truly trust Him to answer you. That is why, in many cases, God gives a promise before He brings the breakthrough.

Sometimes He speaks directly to you. Other times, He may use Scripture or send someone with a prophetic word.

The purpose of the promise is to anchor your faith. God wants you to believe Him and hold firmly to what He has spoken.

After giving the promise, God then tests your faith.

He watches to see if you will truly believe and continue to pray, trust, and stand on His Word, even when nothing seems to be happening.

This is when your persistence in prayer becomes the evidence of your faith.

2. Remembrance

The second thing God looks at is remembrance.

God wants us to remember where He brought us from. His blessings are so good that, once we receive them, we can easily forget the pain, struggles, and prayers that preceded them.

Even the children of Israel had to be reminded time and again not to forget the Lord when they reached the promised land. Sadly, they still turned to idol worship despite witnessing mighty miracles and the display of God’s power every day.

In the book of John 16:21, Jesus gave the example of a woman in labor. During childbirth, she experiences great pain, but once the child is born, she quickly forgets the pain because of the joy.

In the same way, God desires that we carry a strong testimony, one that we will never forget so that our lives become a reflection of His power.

Why God Often Delays Answers

This explains why breakthroughs often take time and sometimes come at the very last minute. It is not because God is slow or unwilling, but because He is building in us a testimony so strong that we will never forget Him.

If God answered every prayer instantly, many of us would quickly forget Him.

As the saying goes, God gives and forgives, while men get and forget; even today, we remain forgetful.

This is also why people who encounter heaven talk of struggling to return to the earthly realm. They forget earthly pain because heaven is exceedingly glorious.

But as long as we are on earth, God wants our lives to testify of His goodness.

Therefore, God often allows us to experience waiting, pressure, and even extreme situations so that when He finally answers, our testimony remains permanently engraved in our hearts.

This was also the case for the four lepers at the city gate in the book of 2 Kings 7:1–20. They were ready to die either from the famine or under the Syrian army. They only experienced their breakthrough when they had completely come to the end of themselves.

Therefore, when you find yourself waiting, struggling, and wondering why God has not answered yet, understand that He is often preparing a lasting testimony within you. Keep the faith.

When God Answers Mid‑Prayer

Now, when you are praying in tongues, there are moments when God may answer you midway through your prayers. At that point, it can be tempting to stop praying. But you must continue.

Usually, God gives blessings in two parts. First, He answers the specific thing you prayed for. Then, He adds an extra reward for your persistence, faith, and devotion.

Many people stop praying once their immediate need is met, and as a result, they miss the additional blessing God intended for them.

This is illustrated in the story of the ten lepers Jesus healed in Luke 17:11–19. All ten were cleansed, but only one returned to give thanks. He received an additional blessing as his faith was affirmed and perfected. The others were healed physically, but missed the greater spiritual reward.

Conclusion

Therefore, when God answers you mid-prayer, do not stop. Persist until you finish. And even when God blesses you abundantly and your life becomes peaceful and beautiful, do not stop praying in tongues.

Just as Israel fell into bondage whenever they forgot God, believers today can easily fall into spiritual captivity when they push prayer aside.

Always remember what God has done for you. Continue trusting and seeking Him.

God bless you!
