I know what struggling to pray in tongues for long feels like. Syllables don’t flow, tongues feel dry, and no matter how hard you push, there is just no interest in praying in tongues. I battled with this for months, but eventually, I prevailed courtesy of the simple lesson I’ll share with you.

The Mistake of Many Praying in Tongues Believers…

Many praying in tongues believers can pray in tongues for long, but they don’t give consent to the Holy Spirit to unlock that ability.

This simple mistake leaves many of them trying out many tactics to improve their praying in tongues time with little success.

Now that I have highlighted the mistake, let me walk you through the solution.

Solution Context…

Before I head over to the solution, let me start by sharing my story.

Just like many praying in tongues believers, I had a challenge praying in tongues for extended periods during the initial days. We had been advised to pray in tongues for at least 1 hour a day to see the impact of our tongues, but I could barely do 20 minutes.

Syllables were barely flowing out of my mouth. Every word that I spoke felt forced. I didn’t feel the flow of the Holy Spirit as many believers claimed.

But because I wanted to fit in, I pushed myself. However, as you would expect, my willpower quickly ran out.

It got to a point where I knew I couldn’t push myself anymore. I needed another strategy. The only problem was that I had run out of ideas.

In desperation, I asked God to help me to pray in tongues for longer and feel the flow of the Spirit.

Unknown to me, that prayer unlocked a new chapter in my life. It may seem like a simple prayer on the surface, but it is loaded. When you analyze it keenly, you’ll realize just how much revelation it carries.

The scripture I got at that time was Luke 22:44. This is what it says…

And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

It didn’t make much sense to me at the time, but the Lord knew why I needed to have that scripture in mind. What followed was so intense, and were it not for that scripture, I would have given up praying in tongues.

The Revelation

You see, if you want to pray in tongues for long, you need favorable circumstances. The circumstances around you have to ignite enough hunger in you to pray in tongues.

The greater the hunger you have, the longer you can pray in tongues. As soon as your tongues satisfy the hunger you have, the tongues stop flowing.

When I first started out praying in tongues, I didn’t know this was the case. As a result, I used my willpower to push myself.

That couldn’t last for long because my willpower was limited. This is also what many believers try to do.

But when I asked God to help me pray in tongues for longer and feel the flow, I unknowingly gave God consent to orchestrate favorable circumstances for me to pray for long.

Now, I’m using the word ‘favorable’ to describe the circumstances, but let that not make you think the circumstances were sweet.

You see, God understood that I had the capacity to pray in tongues for long. The only thing I lacked was a reason to pray in tongues for long.

God allowed very difficult situations to come my way. All of a sudden, I became very broke, I lost connection with my friends, and many other things went south.

I became so desperate, and the only thing I could do was to pray in tongues. With a lot of pressure on my shoulders, I prayed in tongues with great vigor because my life depended on it.

Before I knew it, I was comfortably praying in tongues for 2 hours non-stop, yet still feeling the urge to continue.

That is when the scripture in Luke 22:44 made sense.

The Lesson here is that you need tough circumstances to push you to pray in tongues and break the initial resistance. Once the resistance is broken, it becomes easy for you to pray in tongues for long afterwards.

God, in His righteousness, does not let tough circumstances befall you unless you permit Him. This is why I said you have to give consent to the Holy Spirit to unlock your ability to pray in tongues for long.

Therefore, for you to increase your praying in tongues capacity, tell God you are willing to put up with tough circumstances that will push you beyond the initial resistance. God will have your consent, and He will permit tough situations to come your way.

Once the tough situations push you to the next level of praying in tongues, God will take them away, and you will have grown to the next level of praying in tongues for long.
