Some believers struggle to pray in tongues because of sleep. Anytime they start praying in tongues, they fall asleep. No matter what they do, they can’t keep themselves awake to pray in tongues.

For a long time, I struggled with falling asleep while praying in tongues. Anytime I started speaking in tongues, I couldn’t help but fall asleep.

That went on until one day, when something happened, and I learned the lesson I’m about to share with you. Since that day, I comfortably pray in tongues for hours without falling asleep.

The Mistake of Many Praying in Tongues Believers

Many tongue-speaking believers who constantly fall asleep while praying assume it is an attack from the devil.

Because of that flawed assumption, they end up praying against sleep during prayer. Unfortunately for them, the problem never ends.

What they fail to understand is that the problem has nothing to do with the devil.

These believers end up fighting a non-existent battle that leaves them feeling weary and defeated.

That is not something I want for any believer. That is why I’m sharing with you this tip that I learned.

Pay attention and learn!

Solution Context

When the Holy Spirit revealed this tip to me, He gave me a number of scriptures. In the same manner, I’ll share with you the scriptures alongside the tip.

The first scripture the Holy Spirit gave me was from Luke 22:45-46. It says…

When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow. Then He said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.”

The second scripture I received was from Proverbs 25:20. It says…

Like one who takes away a garment in cold weather, And like vinegar on soda, Is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.

The last scripture the Holy Spirit gave me was from Proverbs 25:25. The Bible says…

As cold water to a weary soul, So is good news from a far country.

These three scriptures tie together beautifully. They are the foundation of the tip the Holy Spirit gave me.

The Revelation

The first scripture that we read highlights the origin of the problem. In that verse, the disciples of Jesus fell asleep instead of praying.

The second scripture that we read explains the obstacle to solving the problem. When human beings have a heavy heart, it is difficult to revive their spirit.

The last verse gives the solution to the problem. Good news is the best medicine for a weary soul.

But you may ask, how does this apply to praying in tongues without falling asleep?

Well, let me explain…

Practical Implementation

As human beings, we are bound to have low moments just like the disciples of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane. In that moment, they knew they needed to pray, but they didn’t have the power to pray.

For many tongue-speaking believers, falling asleep while praying is a sign of discouragement rather than fatigue.

When we are discouraged, we always want to be left alone. The unwillingness to do anything is what Proverbs 25:20 is describing.

However, for us to get over the discouragement, we need good news. In the context of praying in tongues, good news is having any form of heavenly experience.

That heavenly experience will instantly drive out all discouragement and give you the excitement you need to pray.

This means that if you struggle with falling asleep while praying in tongues, you need to pray that God gives you an encouraging message.

In my case, anytime I start feeling sleepy while praying in tongues, I ask God to give me a revelation. The revelation could be something simple, like a scripture.

When I get that revelation, my mind starts thinking about how it applies in my life. That activates my mind, and all the sleepiness I was feeling disappears.

The next time you feel sleepy while praying in tongues, ask God to give you exciting news and see if your sleep will not disappear.

God bless you!
