Why praying in tongues sometimes makes your heart race

There are occasions when your heart begins to race when you are praying in tongues and you may not understand why it is happening. In this article, I will explain why this happens and what you should do about it.

Whenever praying in tongues, you are charging yourself up in the spiritual realm. The more you get charged up, the more impact you create in the spiritual realm. This impact affects both the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness.

Encountering angels

Normally, the more you speak in tongues, the more you attract the attention of the heavenly angels, who are always watching over us.

Sometimes, you may not be aware of their presence, but as you delve deeper into the spiritual realm through prayer, your spirit becomes so sensitive that you can almost feel the physical presence of these angels.

This heightened sensitivity is a result of strengthening your spirit through speaking in tongues, which in turn helps you overcome your flesh.

Warfare with evil spirits

There are instances when your heart races out of fear, particularly during warfare with evil spirits. These spirits are hideous creatures with a strong evil presence that is scary.

This feeling of fear can be overwhelming, making your heart race as you engage in spiritual battles against these dark forces.

While I have encountered both angels and evil spirits, most of the time my heart races because I am about to encounter the Holy Spirit.

Encountering the Holy Spirit

Many times, I have found myself being caught up in the spiritual realm, causing my heart to race and my knees to grow weak to the point where standing becomes a challenge.

This is a common occurrence, as the Holy Spirit often leads us into the presence of God with the accompaniment of angels. This causes fear because of our sinful nature that makes us feel unworthy before God.

When John the Revelator had his encounter with Jesus before he began seeing the visions from the book of Revelations, he gave a brief description of what happened to him. He was so terrified and scared that he fell down as if he was dead.

When I saw Him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last.

Revelation 1:17

This shows how overwhelming the presence of God is, although it is not harmful to us. It is just overwhelming and very scary. As a result, your heart will naturally begin racing.

There are times when your heart may race while you’re praying in tongues, but you may not reach the point of having those encounters or knowing exactly why your heart is racing.

Other times, the racing of the heart is just one of the signs that you are getting very close to the spiritual realm. This is often due to your increased sensitivity to the spiritual realm, which has been heightened by the tongues you have been speaking.

This sensitivity allows you to perceive spiritual sensations and understand what is happening in the spirit.

However, it can also be quite frightening if you are not aware of the reasons behind your heart racing. The comforting aspect is that God always protects us, as the spiritual realm is very intricate unlike the physical realm.

God has chosen to limit human perception of the spiritual realm just to shield us from these complications.

In the Bible, we see examples of people being startled and scared when encountering angels, like Mary, the mother of Jesus. The angels often had to reassure them that there was nothing to fear.

But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.

Luke 1:30

The same happened with Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, when an angel appeared to him.

But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.

Luke 1:13

Angels are beings that possess the beauty, light, and goodness of God. Now, consider encountering multiple angels, perhaps witnessing them in a state of anger or preparing for war. This would undoubtedly be more terrifying than a single angel delivering a message.

This heightened sensitivity during praying in tongues, indicates the presence of the Holy Spirit guiding you. However, there are times when the fear becomes overwhelming, causing you to stop praying in tongues abruptly as your heart races uncontrollably, making it difficult to even breathe.

When in that specific moment, what I have done in the past is to sit down or sometimes fall down due to the weakness that spreads through my body. During these times, I experience encounters with the Lord, all while my heart is racing as I pray in tongues.

This is a glimpse into what occurs when your heart is racing while praying in tongues. I am sharing this so that if you experience it, you will not be frightened. Instead, you will have an understanding of what is happening around you. Blessings!
