If you avoid the mistakes I am going to share, you will be in a prime position to access deeper depths of the spirit when you pray in tongues.
Many praying-in-tongues believers struggle to access the deeper things of the spirit because they make foolish mistakes. That has to stop today.
I’ll bring to your attention three mistakes you must avoid at all costs to have a fruitful praying in tongues experience.
I have prayed in tongues and had several deep spiritual experiences. At first, I struggled to believe the gift of praying in tongues. It took me two years of researching and experimenting spiritual matters to start having deep spiritual encounters.
I learned the mistakes I’m sharing with you during that period. I hope this truth helps you come out of spiritual stagnation, just as it helped me.
Ready to learn? Let’s dive in.
1. Careless Spiritual Utterances
One time, the children of Israel spoke and said, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness! Why has the Lord brought us to this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should become victims? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?”
Their words got to God’s nerves. His response was swift and radical.
He said, “How long will these people reject Me? And how long will they not believe Me, with all the signs which I have performed among them? I will strike them with the pestilence and disinherit them, and I will make of a nation out of Moses greater and mightier than them.”
But Moses pleaded with God to show them mercy. However, they were not off the hook yet.
God outlined their judgement saying, “As I live, just as you have spoken in My hearing, so I will do to you: The carcasses of you who have complained against Me shall fall in this wilderness, all of you who were numbered, according to your entire number, from twenty years old and above.”
When you are in God’s presence, what you say is taken very seriously. For that reason, if you pray in tongues and want to access deeper realms of the spirit, you must avoid making careless spiritual statements.
2. Letting the fire on your altar go out
The Old Testament is very symbolic.
Remember when the Lord said, “The fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order on it; and he shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings. A fire shall always be burning on the altar; it shall never go out.”
Jesus later on showed us a very interesting spiritual perspective on matters. He said, “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, it goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then the evil spirit says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then the evil spirit goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”
Well, that is what happens when you let the fire on your altar go out. If you pray in tongues and access deep levels of the spirit, you cannot afford to slow down. If you do, the enemy will put in place mechanisms that will make it seven times harder for you to access the spiritual realm.
3. Failing to comprehend spiritual engagements
There was a man in the Bible called Manoah. Together with His wife, they had a very interesting spiritual experience.
It all began when the Angel of the Lord appeared to Manoah’s wife. The angel to her, “Indeed now, you are barren and have borne no children, but you shall conceive and bear a son. Now therefore, please be careful not to drink wine or similar drink, and not to eat anything unclean. For behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. And no razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb; and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.”
As a good wife, Manoah’s wife reported her experience to her husband. Here is what she said word for word, “A Man of God came to me, and His countenance was like the countenance of the Angel of God, very awesome; but I did not ask Him where He was from, and He did not tell me His name.”
Upon hearing the report, Manoah was very curious. In his curiosity, he made a prayer to God and said, “O my Lord, please let the Man of God whom You sent come to us again and teach us what we shall do for the child who will be born.”
Eventually, the Angel of the Lord showed up a second time and explained more about the situation.
When you pray in tongues and get to deep levels of the spirit, don’t make the mistake of leaving a spiritual experience without full information. Ask for clarification for anything you are not sure about.
