As human beings, we often have many questions for which we seek answers from God through prayer. Praying in tongues is considered a powerful form of prayer, allowing us to effectively communicate with the Holy Spirit.
In this article, I will discuss three different ways in which you can ask the Holy Spirit questions while praying in tongues and receive guidance. These methods are listed based on the required level of faith.
Asking in understanding
One method to inquire of the Holy Spirit while praying in tongues is to first ask the question in a language you understand, then proceed to pray in tongues. This approach allows you to directly present your question to the Holy Spirit before engaging in praying in tongues.
As you begin praying in tongues, you will be able to connect and soak in the spirit. After seeking guidance from the Holy Spirit, you will receive an answer.
This process also provides reassurance, especially for those whose faith may be wavering, as it confirms that you have indeed sought the Holy Spirit’s guidance by articulating your question audibly and in a language you comprehend.
The Holy Spirit, being aware of your level of faith, will provide the most suitable answer for you.
There are believers who may not have reached the point of being able to discern the still small voice of the Holy Spirit. In such cases, the Holy Spirit may send a prophet, a man of God, or another person to provide the answer when asked a question.
However, this method may not provide the level of detail that comes from hearing directly from God.
When God sends a messenger, there may be some loss of information in terms of interpretation. The Holy Spirit will provide a complete answer to the messenger, but the messenger may not be able to articulate it as accurately as the Holy Spirit would have.
This does not necessarily affect the message itself, but it is a common occurrence with this method. Sometimes, the Holy Spirit may reveal an answer to someone else, who is supposed to pass it on to you. However, there may be delays in receiving the message, or the messenger may have doubts.
In some cases, the Holy Spirit may need to relay the message through two or three different people before finding someone willing to pass it on to you. These challenges are often encountered when seeking answers from the Holy Spirit using this method.
Praying in tongues first
The second approach to seeking guidance from the Holy Spirit involves first praying in tongues and then seeking understanding. By engaging in praying in tongues, one is able to immerse themselves in the spirit before proceeding to ask the Holy Spirit questions.
The key difference lies in the timing of the inquiry. By doing this regularly, as you are already immersed in the spirit, the Holy Spirit can guide and direct you to the answer that is truly meant for you.
Often, he may provide you with a scripture, offer hints, suggest consulting someone specific, direct you to watch an online video, or use various other methods to communicate with you.
Therefore, by spending time in prayer and thanksgiving, followed by seeking answers, you are allowing the Holy Spirit to work within you, shape you, prepare your heart, and provide feedback when you ask questions.
Silent questions
The highest level of seeking guidance from the Holy Spirit is when you already have a question in your mind as you begin praying in tongues. The Holy Spirit has the ability to answer those questions without you even verbalizing them.
This requires a deep sensitivity to the spirit, as the answers will be as subtle as the questions in your mind.
I have experienced this multiple times, where I had a question in mind but decided not to ask immediately. Then as I began to pray in tongues, the Holy Spirit provided me with an answer almost instantly. I was amazed at how quickly the Holy Spirit was able to respond to my silent thoughts during prayer.
At times, the Holy Spirit often reveals scriptures to me while I am praying in tongues. During this process, I am able to discern that these scriptures are addressing the very things I was seeking answers for.
There is a deeper level of communication with God where asking questions is pointless. This happens especially when one is having a profound encounter with the Lord.
Counter questioning
Sometimes, instead of directly answering our questions, God provides us with an encounter that serves as the ultimate response to all our inquiries, similar to Job’s experience in the bible.
Job had numerous questions about his suffering. Despite questioning God, Job’s righteousness and unwavering faith led God to respond in a unique manner. Instead of providing a direct explanation, God chose to answer Job’s questions with more questions, testing his faith and understanding.
Here are some of the questions God posed to His Servant Job as written in the book of Job.
“Where were you when I Iaid the foundations of the earth?” (38:4). “Have you ever in your days commanded the morning light?” (38:12). “Where does light live, or where does darkness reside?” (38:19). “Can you lead out a constellation in its season?” (38:32)
This method of counter questioning may seem frustrating to others, but for those with strong faith, it reveals that God is good and that the answers lie within the questions themselves.
Jesus frequently used this approach during his ministry. When someone asked him how to enter the kingdom of God, he would respond by asking what is written in the law of God.
One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question: “Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus replied, “What does the law of Moses say? How do you read it?”
Luke: 10:25-26
After the person answered, Jesus would confirm that their response was indeed the answer to their own question, even though he was simply guiding them to answer it themselves.
It is important to be aware that the answers that come from God may not always be immediately understood. Sometimes, God may not provide direct answers, but instead guide people through events and circumstances that eventually lead to the answer they seek.
This process may require patience, but the answer will eventually become clear.
Parables and dreams
There are instances when God chooses to respond to you through a parable, allowing you to pray in tongues and seek answers from Him regarding certain aspects of your life.
Sometimes, the Lord may communicate with you through a complex dream at night. This method of communication, similar to parables, is used by God because some answers are too intricate to be explained in simple human terms.
By revealing things in the spiritual realm or through a combination of spiritual and physical elements, God helps you comprehend His actions and the answers He provides.
God demonstrates His love for us by testing our faith through parables and hints, encouraging us to seek Him more through reading His word and praying.
This process strengthens our relationship with Him, allowing us to grow spiritually. I hope this helps you receive answers to the questions you may be asking the Holy Spirit. Blessings!
Hello friend, I’m from Brazil. I discovered your YouTube channel today. I would like to know what it means to change tongues in prayer? as if you were gaining something or being improved? And what does it mean to speak my native language, usually random words in the middle of tongues?
Noted. I’ll answer your question in an upcoming video.
thanks
