How to be a good prayer student

Prayer is a skill, meaning it can be learned and improved upon. This is an important aspect to understand if you wish to develop your prayer life.

In this article, I wish to share a few pointers on how to build a strong prayer life.

The beginning of your prayer journey

Typically, when a person gets born again and is new to the faith, they often begin with simple prayers that they can comprehend.

It is quite uncommon to find individuals who immediately start speaking in tongues upon accepting Christ. However, there have been instances where newly born again believers instantly possess the gift.

Nevertheless, it is important to note that for the majority of individuals who experience a spiritual rebirth, their faith is often quite limited. As a result, it may take some time for them to develop the faith required to receive the gift of speaking in tongues.

Even seasoned believers may struggle with this concept, as they may still hold onto beliefs that speaking in tongues is not supported by scripture.

Therefore, receiving the gift of speaking in tongues is considered a significant achievement in one’s prayer life.

I have also encountered individuals who view prayer as a mere routine, only devoting a few minutes to prayer in a day. They find it surprising when they come across people who dedicate longer periods of time to prayer.

According to them, prayer is confined to brief moments in the morning, before meals, or before bedtime. The concept of prayer as a continuous communion and fellowship with God seems strange to them.

Inevitably, it becomes challenging for such individuals to develop a deeper prayer life. To progress in prayer, one must first acknowledge that prayer is a skill that can be cultivated, and that longer prayers hold great value.

Consistency

Consistency is key when it comes to prayer. Many believers struggle with maintaining consistency, which is a common human trait. Building a strong relationship with God is crucial for consistent prayer.

Just like in our daily lives, we tend to communicate more frequently with the people we have a close relationship with.

In order to pray consistently to God every day, it is essential to nurture a strong relationship with Him. If you struggle with maintaining consistency in your prayers, it is evident that your relationship with God is lacking.

To address this issue, it is essential to devote more time to reading the word of God. By immersing yourself in the scriptures, you will gain a deeper understanding of God. As your understanding grows, you will find it easier to develop a closer bond with the heavenly Father.

In this event, prayer becomes a more natural and effortless practice, effectively resolving the problem of inconsistency.

Building your faith

The next step required to develop a powerful prayer life is to strengthen one’s faith. To cultivate a strong prayer life, every believer is obligated to nurture their faith.

To demonstrate the power of faith, Jesus said to His disciples, if they had faith as small as a mustard seed, they could command a mountain to be cast into the sea, and it would be done.

Given that prayer involves connecting with an unseen God, faith serves as the bridge for this interaction. As stated in the Bible, it is impossible to please God without faith. Therefore, developing and maintaining faith is essential for those desiring a meaningful prayer life and spiritual advancement.

Building faith is simple. Just like the Disciples of Jesus who asked Him to increase their faith, a believer can pray to God and say, “Father, give me faith.”

This is because faith is built upon knowledge, and depending on your circumstances, God knows the specific knowledge you require to strengthen your faith.

Additionally, God understands the level of your faith, and as you progress, He will provide you with the necessary knowledge to elevate your faith to the next level.

There are believers who possess a higher level of faith, and as a result, they require more complex knowledge compared to those at a lower level.

To grow in faith, the most advisable course of action is to earnestly pray to God and anticipate receiving the necessary knowledge. Once this knowledge is acquired and acted upon, a believer is able to strengthen their faith.

Following this, God will administer tests to strengthen believers as they successfully overcome each trial. As a result, their faith will continue to grow, and their prayer life will flourish.

The advantages of cultivating a strong prayer life are numerous, including experiencing profound peace and the ability to resolve any situation through prayer. Hence, it is of utmost importance to foster a deep relationship with God through cultivating a consistent prayer life.

It is also worth noting that if you engage in speaking in tongues, the intensity of your prayers increases; because of this, you will witness greater outcomes in various aspects of your life.

At the same time, there are believers who speak in tongues, yet their faith is weak. Ultimately, this limits the extent to which they can benefit from their prayers.

Conclusion

These are some of the ways to fostering a fruitful prayer life, irrespective of whether you pray in tongues or not. I hope this information is useful to you, and I earnestly pray that God will assist you in nurturing your prayer life and establishing a beautiful relationship with Him.
