The information I’m sharing with you here will help you discern when the Holy Spirit is prompting you to write in tongues.
This is important because the Holy Spirit prompts many believers to write in tongues, but they never do. Yes, many believers completely miss the nudge of the Holy Spirit for them to write in tongues.
Written tongues play a key role in God’s plan, even though they are often overlooked.
But that stops today, courtesy of the knowledge I’m about to share with you.
I have written in tongues once before in my journey of praying in tongues. I saw other believers in the fellowship writing in tongues, and I desired the gift. I prayed for it, and God allowed me to experience it.
I later on got more interested in interpreting tongues. I’ve since interpreted written tongues many times. In fact, the first interaction I had with my wife was because she had written tongues and needed an interpretation.
With that kind of history, I believe you now trust me to talk about this topic.
The Mistake
Before I get into telling you more about writing in tongues, let me begin by highlighting the mistake that I see many believers making. It is because of this mistake that many tongue-speaking believers never write in tongues.
Here is what happens: a praying-in-tongues believer dedicates himself to praying in tongues. In the process, he starts to feel the presence of the Lord.
His knees become weak, his heart starts racing, and his hands start shaking. The manifestation shocks the believer, and he stops praying in tongues.
He tries to understand what is happening to him, but he can’t find any good explanation.
In the end, the manifestation disappears, and the believer goes back to praying in tongues as usual. To his surprise, that manifestation never occurs again.
Well, if you are that believer, I have very important information for you. Pay attention and learn.
Context
For you to understand the point I want to pass across, you need to know the following three scriptures. The scriptures hold the mystery behind written tongues.
First scripture: Exodus 34:27-28. The Bible says…
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write these words, for according to the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.” So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.
The second scripture of great importance in this context is Matthew 4:4. It says…
But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”
The last scripture I want you to pay attention to is Habakkuk 2:2-3. The Bible says…
Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.’
These three scriptures highlight a very important spiritual truth that every praying-in-tongues believer must know.
The Revelation
In the book of Exodus 34, the Lord commanded Moses to write the ten commandments. From the surface, that looks like an average instruction. However, it is a lot deeper than that.
You see, for words to become law, they must be spoken. That is a spiritual principle set by God Himself. However, spoken communication has a very short shelf life.
A spoken law can only last as long as the memory of those who heard it. And as you know, human beings are masters of forgetting laws.
For that reason, God decided to introduce the writing of laws. Written communication lasts longer than any other form of communication.
This brings me to what Jesus said in Matthew 4:4. In that verse, Jesus rebukes the devil with a law written in the times of Moses. That law had survived over a thousand years yet it was still so powerful that Jesus used it and it worked.
I want you also to note that Jesus started by saying ‘it is written’. That is key in this context.
You see, when a law is spoken, it is subject to one person’s witness. The person speaking the law is the one who has come to that conclusion. But when a law is written, it is because two or more people have agreed to it.
For that reason, written laws are more credible than spoken laws.
This is evident in the last verse we read from the book of Habakkuk 2. In that verse, the Lord commands Habakkuk to write down the vision.
The vision was the Lord’s agenda, but by commanding Habakkuk to write it, the vision became a law agreed upon by God and Habakkuk.
In that case, if someone ever disputes it later, the Lord and Habakkuk will be witnesses that the person disputing is a liar.
Well, I believe this explanation is clear. But the big question is, how do all these relate to writing in tongues?
Well, that’s what I’m going to explain next.
The Mystery of Written Tongues
When you speak in tongues, the Holy Spirit leads you to speak the will of God into existence on earth as it is in heaven. However, because the law is spoken, it can easily be disputed or forgotten.
For that reason, the Holy Spirit prompts you to write down the law so that it can be binding long after you forget it. When you’ve written the law, even if you forget it, God will refer to it and execute it later. But if you never wrote the law, God has no witness to it, and executing it becomes impossible.
For this reason, any vision or promise or law that the Lord intends to execute later, He will ask you to write it.
When you pray in tongues and feel prompted to write, go ahead and write down whatever the Holy Spirit leads you to write. Whether you understand what you’ve written or not, the Lord will have a right to execute it later on. If you don’t write it, you deny the Lord the opportunity to execute the law later on.
It is for this reason that I encourage praying-in-tongues believers to write down as much as they can of what they speak. The written tongues may be scribbling that cannot be understood by a carnal mind, but in the spirit, they are a powerful law of God.
