Debt and poverty is a physical problem as well as a spiritual. To solve it, you have to deal with it both physically and spiritually.
The Physical side
The physical side of the prayer against debt and poverty involves taking action. The Bible tells us in James 2:26 that faith without action is dead just as the body without the spirit is dead.
Praying against debt and poverty is the faith part but then there is the action part. The Bible emphasizes this point further in Proverbs 14:23 when it tells us that hard work brings a profit but mere talk leads only to poverty.
You can only escape poverty when you take action on top of the prayers that you make. There are financial lessons that you must learn for you to get out of poverty.
The Spiritual Side
Debt and poverty have a spiritual side to them. Living in poverty is a curse from God. Poverty comes as a result of someone rejecting knowledge. In anger, God leaves the person to suffer in poverty.
When praying against debt and poverty, you have to understand that you are the cause of your own poverty.
Gaining the required knowledge will automatically lead you out of poverty. If you can’t afford to pay people to give you that knowledge, you can ask God to give it to you.
All knowledge and understanding comes from God. If you ask Him, He will give it to you in abundance.
How to Pray against Debt and Poverty
1. Repent
If you are living in poverty, it is because you rejected knowledge or your ancestors did and God is still angry. You can never have knowledge and still be poor.
For this reason, you have to start by repenting so that God’s anger against you subsides. Without repenting, any prayer you make against debt and poverty only makes God angrier.
If you have been making prayers against debt and poverty with no results, this is most likely the mistake you were making.
It doesn’t matter whether you fasted or gave your tithe to end poverty. If God was angry at you for rejecting knowledge, there was no way you were getting out of poverty and debt.
2. Pray for Knowledge
After repenting, pray that God may give you knowledge. Being in poverty is like being in a pit and knowledge is like the ladder you use to climb out of the pit.
When God comes to take you out of poverty, He will give you knowledge. When you apply that knowledge, you will break free from poverty.
There are believers who have already received knowledge but they have not acted on it. Such believers will continue to suffer in poverty until the day they act on the knowledge God gave them.
If you are planning to start a business, start it. After you start it, God will give you knowledge to run it. Some believers never take action and they expect God to take them out of poverty. Sad!
3. Pray for Faithfulness
When you pray for freedom from debt and poverty, God will listen to you and give you knowledge. When you act on that knowledge, you will break free from poverty.
But then being free from poverty can easily lead you to be unfaithful to God. This is why it is important to pray that God teaches you faithfulness.
The more faithful you are to God, the more wealth you will be allowed to have. The Bible explains this point well in Proverbs 30:7-9. This is what the Bible says; two things I ask of you, LORD; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the LORD?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.
The balance explained in this scripture has to be maintained always. God will warn you when your level of wealth is about to make you disown Him. And when you are in poverty, God will be angry at you when you do shady deals that dishonor His name.
Praying to come out of Debt and Poverty takes Time
You may have attended prayer vigils to break the cycle of debt and poverty. You may have fasted to end poverty but the truth of the matter is that coming out of poverty is a process.
You will gradually grow out of poverty when you gather knowledge and apply it. The more knowledge you gather and apply, the higher you rise above poverty. The quicker you do it, the sooner you get out of poverty.
Don’t waste your life waiting for a whistle to be blown for you to start a business, write an application for a job or start saving; do it right away.
God will guide you when you start taking action.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the love that you have for me. Thank you for the knowledge I have received today. I repent for rejecting your knowledge previously. Forgive me!
I pray Lord that you teach me how to be a faithful financial steward. Give me knowledge to handle wealth. Teach me to implement the knowledge you give to me that I may please you. Above all, help me to remain faithful to you even when my wealth increases. May I not be led astray by the deceitfulness of riches.
