How to Pray for Anointing Oil

To pray for anointing oil, hold the bottle containing the oil in your hands, lift it up and make a declaration over it that God’s power may abound in it. You can do this while standing or kneeling. After you have made the declaration, pour a little oil on your hands and apply it on yourself.

I will give you a sample prayer you can declare over the anointing oil towards the end of this article. Before that, I will explain to you basic concepts about anointing oil that you need to understand.

How Anointing Oil Works

Before you pray for anointing oil, it is good to understand how it works. Once you know how anointing oil works, it will be easy to pray for it.

Anointing oil is a physical representation of God’s anointing. The anointing of God serves different purposes.

Anointing Oil Breaks Yokes

This is what the Bible says in Isaiah 10:27; It shall come to pass in that day that his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck, And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.

The anointing of God breaks yokes. Because anointing oil represents the anointing of God, it is used to break yokes.

When God wants to break a yoke, He anoints someone specifically to break that yoke. There are stories in the Bible that illustrate how God anoints people to break specific yokes.

In 2^nd Kings 9, the Bible narrates to us how Jehu was anointed king. He was anointed specifically to destroy the household of Ahab. Through the power of that anointing, he killed the entire household of Ahab including his wife Jezebel.

God’s anointing is specific in the yokes it breaks. If you intend to use anointing oil to break yokes, you have to specify which yoke you want to break. If you don’t specify, the anointing will not accomplish what you want.

The Bible tells us in James 5:14-15; Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.

Anointing oil can break the yoke of sickness as well as the yoke of sin. The prayer accompanying the anointing will determine what the anointing does.

Anointing Oil seals Covenants

When God has vowed to accomplish a matter, He anoints someone to carry out His plan. The anointing is a seal that makes sure the word the Lord spoke comes to pass.

In Isaiah 61, God sent forth a prophecy of the mission that the Messiah would come to accomplish. The chapter begins by proclaiming that the Spirit of the Lord was upon the Messiah and God had anointed Him to preach good tidings to the poor, heal the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to the captives etc.

The anointing of the Messiah was a seal that ensured that all that God had proclaimed would be fulfilled by the Messiah.

Because of this, anointing oil can be applied on children to seal their destiny in God. Once someone has been anointed to serve a specific purpose, the person cannot turn away from it. Whether willfully or by force, the person will fulfill what the anointing on his life speaks.

The person anointed by God receives the protection of God. The Bible tells us in 1^st Chronicles 16:22; “Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm.”

Consecrating Anointing Oil

Faith is necessary in consecrating anointing oil. Anointing oil takes the faith of the person who prayed for it. It is like the handkerchiefs that touched Paul or the shadow of Peter that healed the sick.

We also know of the story of the woman with the issue of blood who was healed by touching the garment of Jesus. The garment of Jesus, the shadow of Peter and the handkerchiefs of Paul carried the faith of their possessors.

Anointing oil, just like the other objects carries the faith of its possessor. The greater the faith of the person who consecrates the oil, the more it can accomplish.

For this reason, anointing oil that you consecrate barely has an effect on you. Since the faith that consecrated it is equal to the faith you have, whether you use it or not, the result of your prayers is the same.

But if you use anointing oil that someone who has greater faith than you prayed for, you will ride the greater faith of the person. This is why God used to send His prophets to anoint Kings.

The prophets had greater faith than the kings. Through the authority of the Prophets, the Kings would find favor before God.

David refused to kill King Saul when he had an opportunity. David understood that even though King Saul was seeking to harm him, he carried the anointing of God given to him by Samuel.

Killing King Saul would also mean David would dishonor the anointing of Samuel. Samuel later on anointed David which would never have happened if David dishonored the anointing of Samuel by killing Saul.

How to Pray for Anointing Oil

Since anointing oil carries the faith of the person who prayed for it, you should only pray for anointing oil and give it to people with less faith than you to use it.

Apart from that, work on growing your faith so that the anointing oil you pray for accomplishes much. You can fast and pray to raise your faith before you pray for anointing oil. That way, the anointing oil will carry the strong faith you had at the time you were praying for it.

Sample Prayer for Anointing Oil

Heavenly Father, in my hands I’m holding this bottle of anointing oil. Let this oil in my hands be a representation of my faith in you. Wherever this oil is used, remember the covenant I have with you and intervene in the situation as you will. May your power abound in this oil! May your name be glorified through this oil! Heal those who are sick, comfort those who mourn through this oil. May your protection be upon everyone who receives this oil! Break sinful yokes in the lives of everyone who uses this oil! You are God in heaven and nothing is too hard for you. I trust in your great power and Holy Name. Amen!
